Customer stories

Trusted packaging for refills & liquids

From refill systems to oils and concentrates, our customers come to Grounded because a flexible pouch uses a fraction of the material a rigid bottle does, and they want that format advantage without leaks, failed seals or a sustainability claim they can't stand behind.

Why Grounded

A flexible alternative with material reductions

A refill pouch uses significantly less material than the rigid bottle it replaces, before recycled content is even counted. Liquids rule out compostables, so we start with the barrier your product needs, then build to your brand from there: material, finish, custom shapes and sizes, resealable spouts.

Durability and leak-proof engineering

Seals and spouts engineered to contain liquid reliably through filling, transit and repeated use, with no leakage.

User ergonomics

Spouts that pour clean and reseal, taps for larger formats, and closures specified around how your customer actually uses the product.

A win on material reduction

A flexible refill pouch replaces a rigid bottle using far less plastic, the clearest sustainability gain in the category, before recycled content is even counted.

Packaging

Materials, impact & price

Sustainable materials with verified impact

For refills and liquids the format is the sustainability story: a flexible pouch uses far less material than the rigid bottle it replaces, before recycled content is even counted. Liquids rule out compostables, and where oils or spirits need a maximum barrier.

We engineer spouts and structures that contain liquid reliably, then work with you to find the right sustainable spec for your product, your format and the market you sell into. You see the options together: the materials, their impact data and the price per unit, all in one conversation. No hidden trade-offs and no golden ticket, just informed decisions based on evidence.

Got refill packaging questions? Here's the answers.

Why is a refill pouch more sustainable than a rigid bottle?

A refill pouch often uses less plastic than the equivalent rigid bottle, before recycled content is counted. Pouches also ship and store flat, cutting freight emissions and warehouse space, and can contain up to 70% PCR content.

Can refill and liquid packaging be recyclable?

Yes. Our refill spout pouches are typically made using a recyclable PE structure with up to 70% post-consumer recycled content, recyclable via soft-plastics collection. High-barrier liquids like olive oil and spirits sometimes need additional barrier structures. Some high barrier solutions cannot be made in recyclable materials, which we make clear up front.

Can liquid packaging be compostable?

No. Compostable films are moisture-sensitive by design, so liquid products degrade the pouch from the inside, and seams and spouts under liquid pressure need strength compostable materials cannot provide. Compostable suits dry products up to 1kg. For liquids, recyclable PCR with engineered leak-proof seams is the honest answer.

What's the difference between a spout and a tap pouch?

A spout pouch has a screw-cap spout for direct pouring and resealing, the standard for refills from 200ml to 2 litres. A tap pouch uses a dispensing tap for larger formats, typically 3 litres and up, giving controlled gravity-fed pouring, with one-way tap options that keep oils under vacuum for freshness.

Do I need special filling equipment, and are there minimum order quantities?

Most brands fill through the spout using standard liquid filling and capping equipment, their own or a co-packer's, and we match spout diameter to your filler. Pouches can also be supplied open for bottom filling. MOQs start at 6,000 units digital or 10,000 rotogravure, plus a one-off spout mould fee.
