Pet food packaging must protect what is inside and win the shelf. We engineer high-barrier, puncture-resistant pouches and films for wet or dry formats that preserve freshness, prove your sustainability credentials, and make your custom branding stand out.

From fresh-food disruptors to dry-food and treat brands, our customers come to Grounded because pet food packaging has to protect the product first, and they want a partner who specs barrier and format around how the food is actually made.

Australia's leading fresh pet food brand swapped its fossil-derived coextruded PE and PET/PE laminate thermoforming films for a bio-based, recycle-ready alternative, and ran it on existing machinery at both manufacturing sites from the first trial. Twenty SKUs, two web positions, no line changes.

Pet food asks a lot of its packaging: a barrier that holds freshness, a structure that resists punctures, and food-safety compliance that stands up to audit. The first question is always dry or wet, because it decides format, material and sustainability options before anything else.
Structures engineered to survive filling, transit and handling, with PA/nylon added where heavier fills or sharp kibble demand it.
High-barrier EVOH structures protect oxygen- and moisture-sensitive food and extend shelf life, matched to dry, dried-meat or wet.
FDA and EU food-contact compliant by target market, with the documentation your buyers and auditors ask for.
Stand-up pouches for everyday retail, vacuum and thermoforming for dried and wet, all engineered for barrier, puncture resistance and shelf presence. The first question we ask is dry or wet, because it decides everything downstream.

Pet food packaging must protect the product first. The line between wet and dry dictates your barrier, format, and sustainable material options. Wet rules out compostables; dry opens them up within weight limits. Performance leads, and a credible sustainability story follows.
We engineer the exact structure your food demands, then find the right sustainable spec for your market. You get total transparency: the materials, their carbon impact data, and the exact price per unit, all in a single conversation. No hidden trade-offs, just evidence-based decisions.
Soft-plastics recyclable, up to 70% post-consumer recycled content, high-barrier EVOH where freshness demands it.
Dry food only, up to 1kg. Never suitable for wet food, where moisture degrades the structure.
Derived from sugarcane ethanol, our bio-based recyclable laminate offers significant carbon reduction and reduced reliance on fossil fuels.
Scope

The third-party verified system providing real-time carbon footprint, material circularity and end-of-life data for the optimal outcome. Carbon, recycled content, end-of-life and price per unit for each material, modelled for your format. Decide on the evidence, in one conversation.

For most pet food and treats, a recyclable mono-material PE pouch with up to 70% post-consumer recycled content (GRS certified) is a strong sustainable option, it handles high barrier requirements and works across your weight range. For dry products under 1kg, certified compostable is an alternative fit.
Dry and ambient products open up the full material range: recyclable PCR, bio-based and certified compostable (up to 1kg). Wet, fresh and frozen food narrows it: moisture attacks compostable films in ambient conditions, and wet formats typically move to high-barrier recyclable structures, vacuum pouches or thermoforming film (MOQ 50,000 print repeats, for brands with form-fill-seal lines).
Both. Recyclable mono-PE pouches with up to 70% recycled content are recycled via soft-plastics collection and meet high-barrier requirements. Certified compostable (TÜV, BPI, ABA) suits dry food and treats up to 1kg. In our compostable packaging, the entire pack is certified, zipper included.
Dried meats and treats need a higher barrier than standard dry pet food, a low WVTR (moisture) and low OTR (oxygen) to stop the fats oxidising and keep moisture out. This usually calls for a high-barrier, often metallised structure, specced case by case to the product and target shelf life.
Pouch MOQs start at 6,000 units digital or 10,000 rotogravure. Thermoforming film for wet food runs at 50,000 print repeats (bottom and top web purchased separately) and requires FFS machinery.

Barrier-tested, puncture-resistant and food-safety compliant, in recycled and compostable options matched to dry or wet. Trusted by Lyka and Scratch Pet Food.
