What a week! The energy at the Melbourne Coffee Expo was higher than a triple-shot espresso, and the Grounded team is still buzzing (though that might just be the caffeine). This year felt like a genuine inflection point: the conversations were more strategic, the technology sharper, and the industry's commitment to a sustainable future more tangible than ever.
Here’s a look back at our favourite moments from the floor.

We’ve exhibited a few of our stands over the years, but this one was special. We wanted to create a space that looked as "cool" as the tech inside it, and judging by the foot traffic, we nailed it.
The star of the show wasn't just the design, but the digital view of packaging footprints. We showcased our:

The "Grounded" ethos has always been about leading-edge, low-impact materials. It was fantastic to walk roasters through our three core pillars:

Whether it was a first-time roaster trying to understand the balance between oxygen barrier requirements and eco-friendly materials, or the C-suite of the country’s largest roasting operations, the dialogue was engaging and exciting to be involved in. Meeting people who are as passionate about the "how" of the coffee industry as they are about the "what" is why we do what we do.
If there was a single theme running through this year's Expo, it's that sustainable reporting has moved from aspiration to expectation. It's no longer a future consideration or a marketing footnote, it's actively driving procurement decisions at the highest levels.
The verdict is clear: People want clarity on sustainable packaging decisions, and clarity requires data.

The Sustainable Leaders Panel
On Thursday afternoon, we were honoured to take part in one of the standout sessions of the Expo. Sitting alongside Lou Dyer from KeepCup, Laura Hindson from Madame Tiger, and Monique Jaksic from World Vision was a genuine privilege. Each brought a distinct and compelling perspective on what sustainability looks like across vastly different industries and scales of impact.
The conversation covered serious ground. From the human realities of sustainable agricultural practices on farming communities in Africa, to the challenge of building supply chain resilience amid an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape, it was the kind of dialogue that goes well beyond packaging choices and into the broader responsibility that comes with operating a conscious business.
To share a stage with leaders who are doing genuinely meaningful work in their respective fields made it all the more worthwhile. These are the conversations that sharpen thinking and reinforce why the "how" of business matters just as much as the "what."
The Coffee Hero Awards
We were stoked to be named a finalist for Leadership in Sustainability. A huge congratulations to the winner - it’s an honour to be in such pioneering company.
The Team
A massive shout-out to the Grounded crew. From concept and design through to the build and the long days on the floor, this was our best showing yet, and it doesn't happen without every one of them.
Some of us learned a very important lesson the hard way: Be careful drinking coffee after 3:00 PM. No matter how delicious that world-class micro-lot froth pour might be, your sleep schedule will not forgive you. We’re still recovering from the "3:00 AM Coffee Expo Ceiling Stare." Although, it does seem some people can handle coffee into the wee hours - not me though.
