OK Biobased

OK Biobased

Certifies a material is produced using plant-based derivatives
Overview

As a result of the increased environmental awareness among customers, there is a growing market for products produced from a basis of renewable raw materials. TUV Austria’s OK Biobased tests that the material is derived from plants, agricultural byproducts or agricultural waste. In contrast to a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), the investigation method behind the OK biobased certification is very simple and the exact bio-content can be precisely and scientifically measured and calculated.

Certification requirements

On a basis of the determined percentage of renewable raw materials (% Bio-based), a product or material can be certified as the below: - One-star biobased (20-40%) - Two-star biobased (40-60%) - Three-star biobased (60-80%) - Four-star biobased (80%+)
